This system is part of a network that is deploying Transformation
Digital throughout the Island to notify the population of situations of
emergency and that is centralized in Cecopin
The Cabildo de La Palma has proceeded to install a wireless public address system AirVoice in Puerto Naos and La Bombilla to notify the population in the case of emergencies occurring and, especially, in the presence of toxic gases, once people can be given access, even if it is restricted, to both centers that are closed due to the existence of gases.
This action, carried out by the Digital Transformation area, with the collaboration of the Security and Emergency service, is part of the wireless public address network that has been deployed in La Palma since the volcanic eruption occurred to facilitate notification to the population in emergency situations.
The Minister of Digital Transformation, Gonzalo Pascual, indicates that the devices have the capacity to immediately and massively communicate any alert situation, such as the emission of harmful gases derived from the volcano; dangerous or very adverse weather conditions; floods, or forest fires.
The wireless public address network consists of a control center and a set of loudspeakers distributed throughout the areas to be covered. The supervision and activation of these devices is centralized in the Island Operational Coordination Center (Cecopin).
In this sense, the Minister of Security and Emergencies, Nieves Rosa Arroyo, highlights that the installation of this public address system responds to the adoption of security measures so that once access to this area of the coast can be authorized, it can proceed to the evacuation of the population to a safe area, if the presence of toxic gases is detected. Arroyo points out that measures continue to be taken to guarantee the safety of people, which “has been our priority objective in the volcanic emergency.”
